So, now on to the blog post!
I know, I know, we have officially entered fall and I should probably be writing a post to you full of pumpkin goodness! But I’m not, not today anyway. I will soon though! I tend to write recipes based on what my kids are hungry for and they have been wanting my chocolate milkshakes a lot lately. So, chocolate milkshakes are what you are gonna get today my friends!
No matter the season, you cannot go wrong with a milkshake..am I right?
No matter your age, you cannot go wrong with a chocolate milkshake…I know I am right!!!!
Having a recipe like this in your arsenal when you hear the reoccurring phrase “I’m H.U.N.G.R.Y!!!” can be a life-saver! Not to mention you will earn Kitchen Ninja points with your whole family! Unless of course they don’t like a milkshake…then, I don’t even know what to tell you except make this for yourself…you will be your own hero if you do! Nothing wrong with being your own hero!
This milkshake can be made with our without dairy! If you are making it using only with coconut milk be sure to use the full fat coconut milk or coconut cream. If you use reduced fat coconut milk, you will loose a lot of the thickness and it will be more like chocolate milk instead of a milkshake. If you can eat dairy, then I wholeheartedly recommend using both coconut milk and heavy cream! I mean, we are making a milkshake here people! It will be delish no matter how you make it though!
There is a secret ingredient in this milkshake recipe! We are working our ninja skills overtime today my friends! My secret ingredient is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides! I love Vital Proteins products and use them daily in everything I can stick them in! Let’s look real quick at the benefits of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides as stated in their website…
- Promotes youthful skin, healthier hair, and stronger nails
- Helps keep bones healthy and strong
- Supports joint health
- Contributes to a balanced diet and helps maintain weight
- Supports healthy inflammation response due to overexercise
- Natural glycine improves sleep quality
Collagen Peptides is also a great source of protein. Two scoops of collagen provides you with 18 grams of protein!!! Get creative and try adding this to smoothies, soups, stews, coffee and anything else you can think of….like this chocolate milkshake!
Ready for a milkshake?
Let’s do this!
All you need are some simple ingredients. Get out your coconut milk, heavy cream, cocoa powder, ice cubes, collagen peptides, vanilla, stevia and xylitol, place them in your Vita Mix and get blending!
I often add a spoonful of whipped cream and a few cocoa nibs to top this milkshake off!
You have just earned Kitchen Ninja status!
Note: I use xylitol and stevia as sweeteners in this recipe to keep the carbs lower. You could substitute with maple syrup, coconut sugar or honey if you would prefer.
- 1C Heavy Cream (Use organic whenever possible)
- 1C Coconut Milk (full fat, not reduced fat or light)
- 2T Cocoa Powder
- 1t Vanilla Extract
- 2T Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
- 10 Drops Stevia Extract (non-bitter)
- 2T Xylitol
- 6-8 Ice Cubes
- In a Vita Mix or other high-powered blender pour the heavy cream and coconut milk. If you are making this dairy free then use a total of two cups coconut and leave out the heavy cream!
- Add in the remaining ingredients along with the ice cubes and blend until thick and creamy!
- You can top with whipped cream and cocoa nibs like I did in the picture too!
