It only happens once a year!
Over 450 kids converge upon Sandy Pines for VBS! The music is loud, the kids are excited, crafts with glitter and string await. There are treats to be had and friendships to be made, while truth and treasure from the Bible comes to life in the minds and hearts of precious little people! I love the week of VBS! This year was particularly fun, my kids and their cousins were up bright and early every morning, eager to see what the day held. Even though I was there to teach and help, I walked away with a truth standing out in my mind daily. Something to ponder in my heart for the day. Of course the words to the songs and the hand motions I still needed to learn (the Kindergarteners were way beyond me on this one!) followed me throughout my week as well.
This past week was tiring but also so inspiring. God did a great thing when he created the little people of this generation! I love them to pieces!
Since we had VBS as our focus last week, I didn’t get a whole lot else done! I have a plan to catch up this week and show you some great recipes I have been working on.
VBS wasn’t the only thing keeping my days full…
I am pretty sure that I am part fish…well, saying I think I am part mermaid sounds much more glamourous!
We will go with that.
I am pretty sure that I am part mermaid!
Yes, that sounds much better!
Whenever I am around water, small lake, big lake, ocean, pool..whatever it may be….I must swim! I cannot help myself!
My childhood involved mostly sand, sun and water…all summer….every summer. My Gram believed that God had chosen us to live a life on the beach! Really, truly, that is what she would always say! She may have loved the water more than I do…maybe!
Since I was helping at VBS and we were right there at the lake, I took in some extra time on the beach and in the water. I even swam some longer distances which I haven’t been healthy enough to do in a very long time! Changing the way that I eat has payed off so much! You just can’t put a high enough value on health and being able to actually go out and enjoy your life. No more watching from the sidelines for me, I am in the game my friends (my athletic abilities are not so grand so this may or may not be metaphoric)!
I thought I would shake things up a little on my blog today and share with you some things that I love and some people I enjoy following. Sharing is part of caring…right!
Learning new things really inspires me. I have been pushing myself in this area. I want to be the kind of person who reaches past what I am comfortable with and puts myself out there to try the unknown. Let’s be adventurous! Saying “I can’t” just won’t cut it anymore!!!! We are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for. I totally understand physical limitations. I have been there and am still working through some. BUT, there is always something in our lives that we can do better at, something we can work towards and something we can learn.
Setting goals for myself has been a hard threshold for me to cross. Not because I don’t believe in setting goals. Simply because I have set them so many times and had an illness or physical circumstance keep me from reaching them so many times. I would set a goal, work really hard at obtaining that goal and then, wham…life would beat on me and I would have a setback…again and again. Now I am learning to set goals a little differently and break them into bits and pieces that I can obtain. You know, saying I want to loose 50lbs by next month doesn’t really work out! I am exaggerating here, but I bet you know what I mean!
I stumbled across a free 30 day program about goal setting that I have been doing and loving. I haven’t completed the whole thing yet so I can’t quite speak for it all, but what I have gone through I have really enjoyed. The program is by Chalene Johnson and it is called the 30 Day PUSH. I have identified some awesome goals that I want to accomplish this year and learned some great things. So, if that is your thing…or if you want that to be your thing….take a look at www.30daypush.com and start setting goals for yourself in order to see your dreams happen!
Another person I can’t say enough good about is Andy Andrews. He is one of my favorite authors. There isn’t anyone quite like him when it comes to storytelling and finding perspective in our lives. We may not be able to change all of our circumstances but we can change our perspective and once our perspective changes, our circumstances often change too! My favorite books by him are ‘The Noticer‘, ‘The Noticer Returns’, ‘The Travelers Gift‘ and ‘The Seven Decisions‘. The way Andy’s personal life has been transformed by finding perspective is quite inspiring! He has gone from being a homeless young man to a highly successful and sought after speaker and author, you can find more about him here! Grab one of his books and you will be happy you did!
Trust me, you will find this book life impacting in so many ways!
A couple more things I love….
One of the first blogs I started following when I discovered the wonderful world of blogs is still one of my favorites. Home Sanctuary written by Rachel Anne Ridge is a blog about creating a home environment where we can be at rest and free to be ourselves, not only for ourselves but for our families and friends as well. Rachel writes with love and understanding, always finding a way to reach into my life with her words. Every time I see an email in my inbox from Home Sanctuary, I can’t wait to read her blog post.
Joanna Gaines...need I say more? This girl is inspiring to me. She lives her life with intention, something I have been putting into practice the last few years. I love the way she writes on her blog and how she interacts with her husband on Fixer Upper! Chip cracks me up! After watching their show I usually want to paint something and move to a farm with my own chickens!
Turns out I have many more favorites I could share with you! But this short post I was creating is turning out to be quite long, so I will save some for another day!
I will leave you with this…
In all that you do today….live with intention!
Stop getting in your own way! Reach past what is holding you back from what you want to achieve and who you want to become! You can do this!
And always remember…Today is a gift!
Until next time,
